LESSB Receives Bruce Davis Award
At the 40th annual statewide APS Conference, held in Austin, October 10th-13th, the Llano Estacado Silver Star Board was one of three boards that received the first ever Bruce Davis Award of Excellence. This is the highest award a silver star board can achieve. The award was received for LESSB by LESSB board member (and state board member) Dan Kuss and Region One Community Engagement Specialist Marcie Leffler.
Consistent with the APS mission of protecting older adults and persons with disabilities from abuse, neglect, and exploitation, and to highlight the partnerships necessary to carry out this work, the theme of the conference this year revolved around how communities work together to support this vulnerable population. Known for its excellent speakers, both in their areas of expertise and presentations on a wide variety of topics, the conference draws hundreds of attendees of various disciplines (social workers, attorneys, law enforcement, judiciary, etc.) from all parts of the state and across the nation.
The Bruce Davis award is a great honor. Dr. Bruce Davis has worked tirelessly throughout his life for senior adults. He began the master’s program in gerontology at Abilene Christian University, has been an administrator in assisted living, and has worked with Adult Protective Services silver star boards in various capacities to promote the welfare of senior adults throughout Texas.
Thanks to all board members and partners for making this award to LESSB possible. A special shout-out goes to Kathleen Mawe for her dedication in keeping up with all of the details required for and in submitting the Award of Excellence application each year.
