Our Mission and Services

The Llano Estacado Silver Star Board is a non-profit, 501c3 organization that partners with Adult Protective Services in Lubbock County and surrounding Texas counties to support their clients in areas not supported by government funding or other non-profits. These clients are senior adults or adults with disabilities who are subject to abuse, financial exploitation, neglect (including self-neglect), and/or abandonment.

  • Silver Star Room

LESSB maintains a Silver Star Room at Adult Protective Services offices in Lubbock that is stocked with canned and frozen food, hygiene items, cleaning supplies, and many other items for emergency needs of APS clients.

  • HVAC Units

Whether it is the blazing summer heat or the freezing winter cold, West Texas weather can be brutal. Providing portable heaters and air conditioners help APS clients get through those harsh days—and, quite frankly, saves lives.

  • Utilities and Rent

Because of desperate times, some clients have to let their rent and utility bills go in order to pay for food or medical emergencies. LESSB helps with past due utility bills, deposits, and reconnect fees. We also help with rental deposits and past due rent.

  • Home Safety

Home safety is of prime importance to oft-neglected seniors. Providing secure ramps and other safety devices keeps APS clients viable members of our community. LESSB also helps with other home repairs and provides needed appliances and furnishings.

  • Transportation

Transportation can be a major issue with some APS clients—getting back and forth to work, to the grocery store, to medical appointments. LESSB provides APS caseworkers with bus passes for their clients’ use and also has helped with other transportation needs.

  • Miscellaneous

Where there is a need that cannot be answered by government funds, other non-profits, or any other means, LESSB stands by to assist. We want to see APS clients thrive and stand by to help in any way we can.

  • Education

LESSB works with Adult Protective Services to provide education on elder abuse to the community. We are available for speaking opportunities, health fairs, and other events that can help us spread the word about combating abuse of the elderly and disabled.

  • Caseworker Support

APS caseworkers are on the front lines every day in dealing with abusive situations. To support them, we provide small gifts and just words of encouragement. They are essential to our clients and we care for their mental and physical health.
