Adult Activity Center Health & Wellness Fair
04/26/2024 – In response to an invitation from the City of Lubbock Adult Activity Center,
LESSB participated in a “Health and Wellness Fair,” featuring numerous vendors, all of whom, in some way, represented organizations designed to provide information and assistance to Lubbock citizens 50 years of age or over.
Present were representatives of Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Assistance, several hospices, Adult Protective Services, Llano Estacado Silver Star Board, Lubbock Public Library, and numerous others.
APS caseworkers and a representative of LESSB were on hand to answer questions and explain to attendees APS’s and LESSB’s functions in caring for adults aged 65 or over and those over 18 years of age and disabled. The attendees were given both APS and LESSB brochures describing abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. Several attendees voiced appreciation for a chance to speak briefly one-on-one with an APS caseworker.
An unexpected bonus for the APS caseworkers, many of whom were relatively new in their positions, was that the “Fair” provided excellent in-person networking opportunities with vendors that they interact with in their positions. Business cards were exchanged and relationships formed.
Each vendor provided an inexpensive door prize for the event and a 12:00 noon raffle brought lots of smiles to attendees faces. The Center director estimated the number of attendees at approximately 94 guests.
