Caseworker Testimony

I have a client that we have had no less than 15 cases over the years for physical neglect of herself.

 In the current case her landlord was wanting the property back so she was being forced to move. The first day I went into the home it was not good, the home was covered in roaches thousands upon thousands of roaches and she has been choosing to live like this for years. Refusing services from APS to help resolve the neglect she was living in. In our current case APS was able to work with a local agency who was assisting our client in finding housing. They wanted APS to assist with moving her items It was a BIG NO, we are not moving roach infested items from one home to go and start the infestation in the whole apartment complex she was moving into.

 After weeks of working together APS was able to assist with first months rent and deposit to get her moved into the new apartment. Our client had to completely start over. The client was able to purchase some larger items on her own but with the assistance of the APS Silver Star Room her money was able to go a lot further in meeting her needs.

 Some of item we provided from the Silver Star Room were personal hygiene supplies, cleaning supplies, blankets, microwave, toaster, can opener,  kitchen items for cooking, bath towels and shower curtain, socks and house shoes, pillow and pillowcase, adult diapers and bed pads, drinking cups,  pajamas and a robe.

 My SUV was loaded down with items! In my 9 years of working for APS I have always felt blessed for the items available in the Silver Star Room for our clients. (I have never had to gather this many items for a client). As a caseworker I know how much of a blessing the Silver Star Room is to our clients so thank you! Thank you for helping us help our clients.
